Hedge Trimming: How should I cut my hedge when it meets a public highway? Try the following websites for more information http://www.wokingham.gov.uk/sys_upl/templates/StdLeft/StdLeft_disp.asp?pgid=1566&tid=50 Or http://www.gedling.gov.uk/overgrown_vegetation.pdf Bonfires: When can I light a bonfire? As there are no bylaws concerning this matter, we ask you to have consideration for your neighbours when choosing to light your bonfire. It is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to cause a nuisance by burning rubbish. Go to www.sevenoaks.gov.uk for some guidelines Vehicles and ParkingWhat is the committee doing to reduce the speed of vehicles using our roads? This has been a topic for the committee from the beginning of the organisation. There is no easy answer to this problem. We are against chicanes, sleeping policeman and other physical barriers. Our reasoning is that barriers cause additional light pollution and traffic noise. We regularly ask the Police to carry out speed checks. We keep in close contact with Sevenoaks District Council and campaign for more speed signs. What is the committee doing about commuter parking The Council have plans for a major assessment of parking in our area funded by BT when their building is fully occupied. We have already passed our views onto the Council and written to them about the parking in Redlands and Brittains Lane at the junction with Braeside for them to consider in this review. In 2006 there has been a major consultation exercise by SDC - see the link to the left. I regularly see cars parked on the pavement blocking the pathway and making pedestrians walk in the road. What should I do? Call the Police: parking on the pavement is an offence and the owner of the vehicle will be fined and recieve points off their driving license.
